[ A tactic nobody would see coming: walking straight into the office and pulling open the drawers.

He doesn't miss the "we," but he doesn't call Dazai out on it either, instead choosing to rest the side of his face on Dazai's head so he can do the thing where he smiles a little to himself and thinks Dazai doesn't know. ]

That sounds complicated... Is there a lot of security around the office? I'd bet. It would take at least one party to distract, while the other infiltrates, wouldn't it?

Just going to ignore the reason why he might be smiling because he has to figure a plan out that doesn't lead to Ayabe getting killed to keep Chuuya in the Mafia. ]

There's cameras outside of the offices and armed guards. While he's sure he has Chuuya's loyalty, he will have a plan in mind in case Chuuya betrays us and tries to make off with the files. You both probably shouldn't go any where near the building, or they would kill you and torture him.

How are we supposed to get the files without being in the building? Is there any reason your boss would ever take them out of the building?

He won't ever guess or know. He may assume Chuuya is biding his time or is intending on finding another way to gain the information. I'm the one possibility he wouldn't ever guess. [ a pause ] He also has other plans in store for me.

[ Mori keeps giving him lessons in leadership or asks him to figure things out is a huge indicator as to what path he has lined up for Dazai. ]

[ They are ??? what, he still can't figure out. ]

Which are? Would he forgive you for helping Chuuya like this? I'm not about to trade your safety away for his, if there's a way to guarantee both.

[ There's a pause. ]

I think- no, he's made it clear already. He's planning to groom me to be his right hand. He might even have plans for me to take over the group some time in the future. I don't know why he thinks I'll just go along, especially after he's prevented my death numerous of times in the last year.

[ He picked someone who was suicidal to be his witness, and now his eventual replacement.

Shifting himself into Ayabe more because he doesn't want to even see what kind of face the other will make here. He has an idea, and he's already done with his misplaced need to take care of him. ]

[ It's obviously a frown on his face, but Dazai doesn't have to see it- he can feel it in the way Ayabe's arms tighten a little around him, with the way his hand curls on the fabric over Dazai's back. ]

At least he did that for you...

[ Saving Dazai's life despite him not wanting it. Ayabe can't hate the boss entirely, if only for this one thing. ]

[ It's guilt. Guilt and his desire to have someone to take care of. It's still pretty strange for him though ]

I probably did, but that shouldn't matter. I remember enough.

[ He will not discount the fact that he probably hit his head at some point, though. He sort of got flung down five flights of stairs or something and whatever brain damage he sustained post-mortem shouldn't be negligible. ]

You're annoying and you caused me a lot of grief, but that doesn't mean you're not important to me. My siblings are just like this, and I still love them.

[ Pfft. Reaching his hand up to card it through Ayabe's hair to feel for any bumps as he leans his head back to try to look at him. His gaze searching for anything off. ]

That sounds more like it. [ A beat ] I don't think I want to be counted as one of your siblings though.

[ Only because I can't keep injuries, Ayabe's head is unfortunately fine. He'll just give Dazai a weird look that he can't see, because it's strange being on the receiving side of this. ]

[ NO his hair is short enough that it's hard to keep messy anyways, and he just shakes his head to reset it and if he whacks Dazai's face with his bangs in the process he deserves it. ]
